In this episode, farrier Michael Joshua shares his philosophy of the horseshoeing business. He started shoeing horses in 1987 and did so until a tragic accident changed the course of his life. He became an investor and returned later to the farrier business. You'll get tremendous insight out of his story and lessons he's learned throughout his career in this episode from a talk given at a past Farrier Focus conference.

In today's episode we talk to Cliff Carroll of Larkspur, Colorado. Cliff Carroll is well known today for his anvils and forges that he manufactures and sells at his shop in Larkspur. Cliff shod horses for many years in Canada, Florida and Colorado. He certified with the Journeyman’s Union on the race track in Florida where he shod race horses for many years. He worked on several high caliber horses, some of which even raced in high stakes races including the Kentucky Derby.

In 1981, he moved from Florida to Colorado to start his supply shop and began to manufacture tools. His 70 pound anvil is a big seller and popular with farriers for its light weight, wide face, narrow rounded heel, and turning cams on the side near the trunk of the anvil. He also sells a 125 pound anvil for heavier horseshoe shaping and a 35 pound anvil that is popular with leather workers and jewelers. He also sells forges, anvil stands and assorted other tools.

In this episode, we talk to Camilla Clawson of St. George, Utah. Camilla works at Intermountain Live Well Center as an Exercise Physiologist. She graduated with a degree in Human Performance management in 2004. She has been a personal trainer and a group fitness instructor as well. She specializes in how to make people feel better through proper balance, breathing, posture and exercise.

Camilla gives some specific exercises that farriers can do every day to improve endurance, flexibility, and overall health. Taking a few moments every day to do these exercises will really make a noticeable difference on how you feel. Part of being a horseshoer is taking time to take care of yourself.
